Fundraising Fun!

Nathan works the concession booth with volunteer parents.

Jennifer and Maya teach people about our mission and sell summer grams.

Fundraising Fun!

As a part of our fundraising our group took on selling concessions at our school’s field day as well as taking on a unique fundraiser called the Summer Grams.  We made special cards that people bought to write a nice note on and then we delivered these notes with a special treat to students or staff members in the school.  It was very successful and we really appreciated all the support!

India is the birthplace of chess?

The original word for “chess” is the Sanskrit chaturanga, meaning “four members of an army”--which were mostly likely elephants, horses, chariots, and foot soldiers!

Claire’s Indian Elephant

For the 2012 trip’s group logo I wanted to paint something that captured Hindu designs, words, and an overall Indian spirit. I chose to draw the head of a decorated elephant, as if it was straight from a wedding in Kerala. The words on the ears say phrases such as, “two countries working together” and “Oregon to India”. Personally, my favorite part is the names on each of the elephant’s tusks which separate our logo from previous years.

I hope you like it!
